SCA's greatest asset is rather unimpressive - three millimeters long and a fraction of a millimeter wide. Wood fiber!

Whether obtained fresh from the forest or recovered, wood fiber is the base for our entire business and all of our products. Wood fiber is a renewable resource. It is recyclable, and when it is finally worn out, it can be used

for energy production. The residual product, carbon dioxide, is reabsorbed by growing trees.

We therefore have the prerequisites to be an industry that is totally in harmony with nature's ecocycles. Although we have made significant progress we can still identify areas where we need to do even better.

Our forests
Our forests are sustainably managed and will be as rich in the future as they are today - in terms of timber, biodiversity and opportunies for enjoying nature.

SCA is one of Europe's largest forest owners, with some two million hectares of forest land in northern Sweden, an area large enough to cover half the Netherlands. At SCA's forest tree nursery in Sweden, fifty million seedlings are raised each year to produce new forest. We replace every tree we harvest with three new ones, either through natural regeneration or planting.

- Spruce fiber from northern Sweden

  for publication papers.

- The system needs an input of forest
  fiber.

- SCA strives to use the right fiber for
  the right product.

- SCA strives to stay close to the

fiber source.

- Damaged or contaminated paper can
  be used in energy production.

A cellulose fiber cannot be recycled infinitely.
